SimplyIcon is a lightweight, free Windows utility that lets you create custom .ico desktop files instantly through a simple drag-and-drop mechanism. Because the software lacks native editing tools, it relies completely on your source image to generate the finished icons. Prerequisites for Installation

Before using the software, ensure your Windows environment is prepared:

System Files: Download the SimplyIcon package and extract the executable (.exe) and DLL files into a dedicated folder.

Framework: Verify your system has .NET Framework 2.0 or higher installed.

Image Size: Prepare a source image that is at least 128 x 128 pixels or larger to output high-quality variants. Step 1: Generate the .ICO File

Run the SimplyIcon.exe program to launch its basic dialogue box. Locate your source image file on your computer.

Drag and drop the image directly into the SimplyIcon program window.

The software will automatically save a new .ico file containing multiple dimensions (up to 128×128) in the same directory as your source image. Step 2: Organize Your Icons

Create a permanent directory (e.g., C:\Custom Icons) to store your newly generated .ico files. Move your new icon into this directory.

Note: Do not delete or relocate this file later, or your desktop shortcut will revert to a blank default look. Step 3: Apply the Icon to Shortcuts or Folders For App Shortcuts: Right-click the desktop shortcut and select Properties. Click the Shortcut tab at the top of the pop-up menu. Click the Change Icon… button. Click Browse… and navigate to your permanent icon folder.

Select your .ico file, click Open, click OK, and then hit Apply. For Folders: Right-click the target folder and select Properties. Choose the Customize tab on the far right. Click the Change Icon… button located at the bottom. Click Browse… to find and select your custom file. Confirm by clicking OK, then click Apply.
